Foreclosure and not paying bills?

I've read this on a semi-popular website but don't know the validity. Apparently some people stay in their foreclosed homes without paying their mortgage - for years on end. How is this... are they tied up in legal proceedings or what?
It happens, but you sure cannot count on it. I know of properties that were to be sold almost a year ago and have not gone to foreclosure sale yet, but some are sold on the first auction date, catching the 'hopeful to live house payment free' owners

We recently lost our home to foreclosure and I am devastated. My husband on the other hand is okay with it and okay with starting over. I keep crying about it and I know that there is nothing that can be done but it still hurts. Our situation was different

first everyone deserved a car, then a credit card and then a house. Wonder why Obama doesn't put pressure on the banks to extend the mortgages. There were 4,000 different types of mortgages and most were set at low payments for the first five years
No the GOP congress balanced the budget, but he did destroy the housing market as well as the integrity of the office of president in my opinion
