My friend has an existing mortgage on a condo with an ex-boyfriend. I have been told by a real-estate pro that if she refinances the loan she can get her name off the mortgage and move on with her life.

She doesn't she entered a legal binding contract to buy the place so unless he lets her out she is sol. she doesn't have to refinance the loan either he has to refinance the loan to his name.

I would get a hold of a copy of the mortgage (public record) and see what the terms state. Also you may want to see if she had mortgagor's insurance as the mortgage may be paid for on her death.

I have a situation where I understand it is not easy to approved my mortgage refinance application due to no employment income (I am self employed). Therefore, I am trying to work with mortgage brokers instead of directly with the banks.
